Council contacts

Find your council's building team

All NZ councils have a dedicated building consent team. This page lists contact details for the main teams. Always check your council's website for the most current information.

Statutory processing time: Under the Building Act 2004, councils have 20 working days to process a building consent application — but "clock stops" while they wait for additional information are common. Real-world timeframes are often longer, particularly in high-demand areas.

Email addresses: We only list building-team email addresses we have been able to verify. Where no verified email is shown, use the online enquiry form or phone. Council contact details change — always confirm on the council's own website before sending.

Use our consent checker to generate a draft pre-application enquiry email, personalised for your project and council.
